TikTok for agencies: what works in 2026

TikTok changed three times in 18 months. Here is what we see actually working in agency operations today.

TikTok became mandatory for almost every agency in 2026 — but it remains the network where most people burn budget without return. The reason is simple: what worked in 2024 (dance, trend recreate) no longer works. This post is what we observe across Mais Social clients that grow on TikTok in 2026.

What changed in 2026

Three big shifts in the last 12 months:

  • TikTok Shop gained algorithm weight — videos with product tags get a real organic boost, not only in the shopping feed
  • "Vertical educational" content (60-90s explaining something specific) became the format with the highest average retention
  • Dance and lip-sync dropped to ~7% of viral videos, vs 30% in 2024

Practical result: for an agency client (who usually sells something, is not a creator), the opportunity is to educate about the product/service in a vertical, short and direct way.

3 formats that work for B2C clients in 2026

1. "Show how it works" (60-90s)

Take the product or service and show it in action. No polished voice-over — natural voice, recorded on a phone, with on-screen text explaining each step. Works for restaurants (show a plate being assembled), salons (show a coloring technique), SaaS (show the screen in action), etc.

Average retention we see: 62% (vs 38% for polished institutional video).

2. "Myths vs truths" (30-45s)

List 3 niche myths and dismantle each in 10 seconds. Works for lawyers, nutritionists, personal trainers, consultants — any expertise niche.

Hook that works: "5 myths your [niche] loves to tell you". Average completion rate: 71%.

3. "Real behind-the-scenes" (30-60s)

Show how the client works — not the polished version, the real one. A chef discussing the menu with the team, a dentist handling a difficult patient, an e-commerce packing an order at 11pm. Humanizes the brand.

This format brings fewer average views, but the save rate is the highest — people save to show to someone.

Ideal frequency for brand TikTok

Unlike Instagram, TikTok rewards volume with high average quality. Recommendation:

  • 4 to 6 videos per week for growing accounts (0-50k followers)
  • 2 to 3 videos per week for established accounts (focus on quality)
  • 1 video per week is the minimum to not disappear from the feed

Important: TikTok does not punish publishing a lot (like LinkedIn does). It punishes publishing mediocre content. If you do not have 4 good ideas per week, it is better to publish 2 great ones.

Sounds in 2026: how to use without becoming cringe

Classic mistake: an agency uses a sound trending in the teenage feed for a furniture store. Does not work.

Right strategy: trending sounds are amplifiers, not substitutes for content. Use trending sounds only when:

  • The sound fits the video topic naturally
  • The client's target audience matches the sound's audience
  • You can record in the next 48h (after that, the sound declines)

If none of those three are true, use the video's original sound. TikTok does not punish original sound in 2026 (in some niches, it prefers it).

Hashtags on TikTok: do they still matter?

Yes, but differently from 2023. Forget 30 hashtags. Use:

  • 1 specific niche hashtag (#brazilianculinary, not #food)
  • 1 city or region hashtag if it is a local business
  • 1 relevant trending hashtag (do not force it)
  • Total: 3 to 5 hashtags per video

Metrics you should show the client

Forget standalone view counts. In the monthly report, show:

  • Average watch time — how long people watch on average
  • Completion rate — % of people who watched to the end
  • Followers gained per video — quality of acquisition
  • Saves and shares — strong algorithm signals
  • Profile clicks — intent to know the brand

This data comes ready in the Mais Social consolidated report, without you opening TikTok Analytics manually.

Most common mistake in 2026: replicating Instagram content

Taking a Reel edited for IG and dropping it on TikTok with the same caption. The algorithm spots it in seconds (watermark, caption format) and buries the video. If cross-posting, make a dedicated TikTok version — different on-screen text, different hook, different first 2 seconds.

How much to charge for TikTok

Trend we see in 2026: TikTok is being separated in the agency proposal, not bundled into the standard "social media" package. A TikTok video takes more script and recording work than an Instagram post. Realistic pricing: R$ 200-400 per finished video, depending on niche and complexity.
